Chelsey + Dustin's Elegant Winter Wedding

One of my favourite parts of photographing weddings is seeing how each couple makes the day their own. When I asked Chelsey and Dustin what they wanted most for their wedding day, they said they wanted it to be fun. They wanted to celebrate with their family and friends and have an amazing party.

With a late 7 PM ceremony, they had a relaxed start to the day - well as relaxed as any wedding day could be with flowers arriving frozen and -1000 degree weather. But Chelsey and Dustin took this in stride; Wascana Flower Shoppe came through with a gorgeous last minute bouquet, and the tables were set beautifully. We started out with a first look on Chelsey + Dustin's amazing custom staircase. Chelsey stunned in her NWL gown, so elegant with subtle sparkle and a gorgeous lace appliqué. Before leaving, Chelsea gifted her gals with beautiful Forever Roses matching her wedding colours.

The Legislative Building was our first stop for photos. We may or may not have ventured into a forbidden area... but it was all worth it for the few shots we were able to get showcasing the building's dramatic architecture. In a dark building with a quickly setting winter sun, we had to get creative with the few available windows and ended up with some pretty magical shots. The hallways of this historic building made the perfect backdrop for an elegant winter wedding.

The extreme cold cut our outdoor photos short and knowing the Turvey Centre (venue) parking lot and crazy winds wouldn't be ideal for the outdoor night time photos Chelsey had envisioned, we got creative. After their ceremony where Chelsey and Dustin exchanged sweet personal vows, we snuck behind the black screen walls at the reception venue, set up some backlighting, and turned off all surrounding lights. Thanks to my friend Eric (Anaquod Videography for helping!

Chelsey and Dustin ended their night with the amazing party they had dreamt about. Great music was a must. Dustin (aka DJ Dusty) and Chelsey hired a live band as well as an amazing DJ. I had so much fun dancing with the guests and capturing the evening. Live music adds so much to a party! My last shot of the night was a group shot - everyone headed to the dance floor and celebrated the newly weds... and as I was leaving I made sure to nab one of my favourite macarons from the stunning dessert table by Queen City Cakes!
